Derek Mortimer is a lawyer with Moores Legal based in Box Hill, Melbourne .
Derek's background is as a leading proponent of micro-finance in Australia and began work in 1996 to develop a micro-finance initiative for Australian rural communities, focused on sustainable development. |
During his time developing the micro-finance initiative, Derek undertook legal studies to better equip him for the work at hand, writing papers on Corporate governance in the not-for-profit sector and Use of the public trust doctrine for environmental management . He was admitted to practice law in 2005. |
Derek is passionate about the law as a positive means to address social problems. He has worked with a number of not-for-profit organisations, his most recent position until December 2006 was developing a Code of Practice for fundraising and a complaints process for the Fundraising Institute Australia .
Derek speaks regularly on legal issues for the not-for-profit sector and has lectured part-time at RMIT Melbourne on Foundation Legal Studies. |

Matthew Turnour is the managing partner of Neumann & Turnour Lawyers and is undertaking a PhD on the law that regulates the voluntary sector. He leads the non-profit law, commercial law and estate divisions of the practice. Matthew is also a part-time lecturer in the non-profit stream of the MBA course of the Brisbane Graduate School of Business at Queensland University of Technology. He has practiced law since 1986.
